Scottish Under-21 girls' open amateur stroke-play

CARLY STREAKS SIX CLEAR WITH 70
AND 68 AT AUCHTERARDER

Comrie’s Carly Booth streaked six shots clear of the field after 36 holes of the Scottish Under-21 girls’ open stroke-play championship at Auchterarder Golf Club, Perthshire today.
Carly, who celebrated her 15th birthday last week, had rounds of 70 and 68 for a two-under-par tally of 140 over a course extended by the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association to make it a tougher test for the girls. The CSS in the first round was 73.
Miss Booth, pictured right, has a bag of 10 birdies over the 36 holes. In the morning she mastered the outward half with a two-under-par score to the turn, birdieing the fourth, fifth and seventh.
In the afternoon, Carly got to grips with the inward half and reduced it to 32 strokes with birdies at the 13th and two par-5 holes, the 15th and 17th.
Leading by five shots from Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), French challenger Emilie Alonso and Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh Old) after the French round, Carly increased her advantage to six shots with one round to go after her superb 68.
Kylie Walker also broke the par of 70 with a second-round 69 to be lying second on 144.
Laura Murray (Alford) continued the form that saw her win six games out of six for East Division champions Aberdeenshire at the weekend. The Robert Gordon University student had rounds of 76 and 71 to be lying third on 147.
Aberdeenshire women’s champion Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon), who gains her first full cap for Scotland in next month’s European women’s team championships, is sharing fourth place on 150 with Emilie Alonso, 16-year-old Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) and surprise challenger Eve Muirhead (Pitlochry).
