European women's team championship

SCOTLAND BEATEN 4-1 BY IRELAND IN ITALY


Scotland lost 4-1 to Ireland in a Flight 2 game in the European women's team championship at Castelconturbia Golf Club, Italy today.
The Irish took 1 -0 lead from the only foursome, won 2 and 1 by Deirdre Smith and Maura Morrin over Rachael Livingstone and Roseanne Niven.
Ireland won three of the four singles.
Tara Delaney had a tight match against Scottish champion Jenna Wilson before winning on the 18th green.
Heather MacRae scored Scotland's only point of the day. She beat Marion Riordan 3 and 2.
Irish champion Karen Delaney beat Emily Ogilvy by 4 and 3 and Danielle McVeigh beat Michele Thomson by 3 and 2.
Scotland finish off a disappointing campaign by playing Austria for 11th place in the final standings.
Ireland play France for ninth position.
England, having won the top two singles through Melissa Reid and Rachel Bell, lost the last three singles to go down 4-3 to Sweden in the semi-final of the championship flight.
Saturday's match for the gold medals will be between Sweden and the impressive Spain.
