LONG-HITTING LAUREN WINS PAUL LAWRIE AND ABERDEENSHIRE GIRLS'
TITLES AT PETERCULTER

Ellon teenager Lauren MacCallum followed up a recent tournament win over the Old Course, St Andrews by scoring a double whammy victory at Peterculter Golf Club today.
The Paul Lawrie girls’ match-play championship and the Aberdeenshire girls’ championship were combined because of a shortage of available dates and Lauren beat Samantha Leslie (Westhill) by two holes in the final to win two titles and two trophies.
Lauren, pictured above with the Aberdeenshire girls' championship trophy, came back from twice being two down on the outward half to be one hole in arrears at the turn. She then won the 10th and 11th to take a one-hole advantage.
Samantha squared the match at the 15th but Lauren, hitting the ball vast distances off the tee, won both the 17th and 18th for a two-hole victory.
Mhairi Johnstone (Northern), beaten by Lauren in the morning semi-finals, beat Lauren Whyte (Aberdeen Ladies) by 2 and 1 in the play-off for third place.
In the final of the Aberdeenshire girls’ handicap championship,13-year-old Sophie Alexander, playing off a handicap of nine, beat Lauren MacCallum’s youngter sister, Kirsten, who has brought her handicap down from 36 to 22 this season, by 3 and 2.
Sophie went three up early on with successes at the first, third and fifth but Kirsten won back the seventh and eighth to reduce her opponent's lead to one hole at the turn.
Sophie then won the 11th, 12th and 13th to go four up. Kirsten won the 14th but the 15th and 16th were halved, leavie Sophie the winner by 3 and 2.
