ELGA PRESS RELEASE

CAROLYN KIRK WINS NORTHERN
SENIORS' TITLE AT HEXHAM

Yorkshire’s Carolyn Kirk underlined her return to golfing form when she scored a three-stroke win in the English ladies’ northern regional seniors' stroke-play tournament at Hexham, Northumberland.
The Ganton player was sidelined last year with a slipped disc and although she continued playing, it was with a restricted swing.
“I was fighting for my health and I didn’t have a lot of fight left for golf, “ said Carolyn. “I am absolutely delighted with this win.”
Carolyn, who is also a member at York, has played in the English team at the European seniors’ team championship. She has also represented the Yorkshire second team and both the Yorkshire and Northern vets.
In this tournament Carolyn led from start to finish. She set the first round pace when she returned 79 for a one-shot advantage. In the second round Carolyn returned a three-over 77 which extended her lead to three shots.
Carolyn, who plays off three handicap, is back to taking part in the full circuit of seniors’ events. “It’s just nice to be fit enough to do it. It makes you appreciate it more,” she said.
Division B of the tournament was won by Ruth Studholme (Eaglescliffe) who had a pair of 87s and beat Celia Willis (Woking 85, 89) on a countback.
