ELGA PRESS RELEASE

LAUREN'S SECOND ACE HELPS HER WIN
CLUB JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Thirteen-year-old Lauren Taylor has scored two holes-in-one this season – and created history at her golf club. For the second of Lauren’s aces helped her to become the first girl ever to win the Rugby Golf Club junior championship.
She scored the hole-in-one during the second round of the 36-hole competition, returning a one-over par 71. She added it to her earlier score of 77 and tied for the title with one of the boys. The youngsters played-off over three holes to decide the championship and Lauren’s birdie, bogey, par scores gave her victory.
“I’m the only girl who has ever won it and I was really pleased,” she said. The four-handicapper had her hole-in-one on the uphill 100yd eighth hole where she used a pitching wedge.
“I couldn’t see it because it’s an elevated green but two juniors on the ninth tee watched it and told me it had gone in. I thought they were joking!” said Lauren.
She had scored her first hole in one a few weeks earlier on the 145yd 12th hole where she used a seven-iron for her shot over water. On that occasion Lauren was playing in a junior medal. Lauren is also the Warwickshire girls’ U15 and U16 champion and has been in one of ELGA’s birdie squads this season.
“The coaching has helped me a lot, it’s improved my swing 100 per cent,” she said.
