Irish Ladies Golf Union Press Release
ENNIS PLAY ROYAL PORTRUSH IN FINAL
Ennis dispatched favourites Co. Louth and now meet Royal Portrush, who ended Laytown & Bettystown’s hopes, in the final of 2007 Suzuki Senior Cup at Milltown Golf Club.
The Southern Champions welcomed back the double-Irish champion Tricia McDonnell, unavailable for the quarter-finals, who led by example with a 4 and 3 victory over Irish international Deirdre Smith.
Girls International Sarah Cunningham and Seniors International Valerie Hassett followed suit, resulting in a call-in for the second and last matches.
Despite the loss by Gemma Hegarty of Royal Portrush to an in-form Alyson Taylor, Helen Jones levelled the tie with a 4 and 2 victory over Tracy Eakin.
Sonya Vershuur defeated Noeline Quirke 6 and 5 while Lucy Simpson endured an admirable fight back by Carol Wickham, who won 17 and 18i, to clinch victory with an up-and-down on 19.
Royal Portrush now enter the final in search of their 23rd title while Ennis will be looking to win the Senior Cup for the first time.
