LYNN KENNY KEEPS IT UP WITH A 69
IN NYKREDIT MASTERS' FIRST ROUND

Lynn Kenny maintained her recent upsurge in form by returning a two-under par 69 in the first round of the Nykredit Masters at Helsingor Golf Club, Denmark.
That put the Archerfield Links player into joint 11th place behind leader Jade Schaeffer (France) with a five-under 66.
Inverness-based Kiwi Liz McKinnon had a 72 to be sharing 45th place, an indication of the high standard of scoring.
Kathryn Imrie was back in a share of 70th place with a 74 while Clare Queen had a 79 which left her in a share of 122nd place and needing something brilliant second time round to beat the cut.
FROM THE LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE:
France’s Jade Schaeffer fired a five-under-par 66 to take the first round lead at the Nykredit Masters in Denmark. The 21-year-old Ladies European Tour rookie carded seven birdies and two bogeys at Helsingør Golf Club to take a one-stroke lead over five players on four-under-par.
Since its inception in 2005, the tournament has only ever been won by Danish players. However, there was a distinctly French feel at the top of the leader board following the first day’s play.
Schaeffer’s compatriots, Virginie Lagoutte-Clement and Cassandra Kirkland, were among the quintet just one shot off the pace. They are joined by Sweden’s Lotta Wahlin, Australian Sarah Kemp and 20-year-old Danish amateur Monica Christiansen, who all finished with rounds of 67.
Schaeffer made a great start to her round, with a birdie on her second hole. But two bogeys in three holes took her back to one-over before a trio of birdies saw her finish her front nine in style.
Her bogey-free back nine sent her one clear of the rest of the field and she was one of just a handful of players to beat par on the treacherous tree-lined par-4 18th.“My putting was really good today,” said Schaeffer, whose older sister Fany also plays on the Tour.
“The 18th is very difficult, so I was very pleased to make a birdie with a ten-foot putt.“I was hoping to make par there, but the putt went in and I was happy.“I didn’t play very well to start, so I told myself to slow down and concentrate – then I had birdie, birdie, birdie.”
Lagoutte-Clement, winner of the Finnair Masters in 2006, carded four birdies and a solitary bogey on the front nine, adding another birdie on the back nine.
Despite her solid performance, the 28-year-old is not getting carried away.“I played very good golf today and I hit 11 fairways and 16 greens,” said the two-time Tour winner.
“I am very happy but we’ll see what happens tomorrow.
“Last week in Finland I made five-under on the first round, but then had five-over and four-over, so we will see.”
Kirkland had a bogey-free round including four birdies, while Kemp’s round included six birdies and two bogeys.
The 21-year-old from Sydney said the narrow course suited her game.“I think that one of my strengths is driving the ball,” she said. “When someone told me that it was pretty narrow this week, I was quite happy.”
Meanwhile, Wahlin, who finished a season’s-best third at last week’s Finnair Masters, continued her recent run of form to tie second thanks to a birdie on her final hole.
Christiansen – a local girl from nearby Gilleleje - was one of the first to tee off and took a surprise early lead after birdieing her last three holes. Three English players are a shot further behind on three-under.
Kiran Matharu, Felicity Johnson and Tour veteran Lisa Hall finished the day tied with Italian Anna Rossi. France’s Gwladys Nocera is one of four members of next week’s European Solheim Cup Team to take part in the Nykredit Masters and she finished the day on one-under-par, ahead of England’s Trish Johnson (77), Wales’ Becky Brewerton (75), and 2005 Nykredit Masters winner Iben Tinning (76).The second round begins on Friday at 8am local time.
