PAT AND NOREEN LEAD SCOTTISH CHALLENGE
IN BRITISH SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Lanark's Pat Hutton and Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) were the leading Scots at the end of the first round of the British senior women's open amateur golf championship at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull today .
They shared fourth place on 79 behind leader Susan Dye's three-over-par 76.
Both Noreen and Patricia had costly double bogey 6s. Noreen's came at the sixth before she birdied the eighth and 15th in halves of 40 and 39.
Mrs Hutton had birdied two par-5s, the second and 14th, before she had a late slip with a 6 at the par-4 18th in halves of 39 and 40.
Heather Anderson from Downfield, Dundee did well to come in 38 for an 80 which sees her start the second round in joint eighth place. Heather birdied the long second, the 10th and 14th.
Lancashire-based former Scottish champion Fiona Anderson from Blairgowrie is sharing 13th place on 81 (39-42). Fiona birdied the second, eighth and 17th but had double bogey 6s at the sixth and 12th.
Former Scottish champion Pamela Williamson (Baberton) and Fiona de Vries (St Rule) were both on the 83 mark. Pamela had a double bogey 7 at the long seventh and a 6 at the par-4 17th in halves of 41 and 42. She had a birdie at the 15th.
Fiona went out in 43 and bac in 40, including a triple bogey 7 at the fourth and a double-bogey 5 at the short fifth. She had no birdies on her card.
No Scot has won this title since the British over-50s championship was introduced in 1981.
Only the leading 40 and ties at the end of the second round will go forward to the third and final round on Friday.
