SOLID START BY JODI EWART TO
US COLLEGE SEASON

New Mexico University second-year student Jodi Ewart, playing in her first tournament of the 2007-2008 American college women's golf circuit, shot a one-over-par 74 over her home college course (6.351yd) at Albuquerque.
Jodi, pictured right, who had an outstanding freshman year, was four over par after a double bogey 6 at the 13th, having bogeyed the eighth and 11th, but the Yorkshire girl finished strongly with birdies at the 14th, 16th and 18th to finish the opening day of the 54-hole event alongside former British girls champion Anna Nordqvist (Arizona State) in joint 23rd place on the 74 mark in the Margaret Branch NCAA Preview tournament.
Anna was beaten by Carlota Ciganda in this past summer's British women's open amateur final at Alwoodley, Leeds, not all that far away from Jodi's home club of Catterick.
Another former British girls champion, Belen Mozo (Southern California) is on the 75 mark in a field of 93 players.
Taylor Karle (Pepperdine) has set a hot pace of six-under-par 67 to lead by one shot from Pernilla Lindberg (Oklahoma State) and Dewi-Claire Schreefel (Southern California.
Duke (287) lead the top of the range team event from UCLA (291), Southern California (292), Arizona State and Vaderbilt (295), Pepperdine (296) and Oklahoma State (296). Hosts New Mexico are sharing 11th place on 300.
