FROM LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE

French amateur Caroline Afonso and German amateur Denise-Charlotte Becker carded a pair of six-under-par 66s to share the lead after the first round of the (Ladies European Tour Qualifying School) Pre-Qualifying at Le Fonti Golf Club, near Bologna in Italy.
French amateur Camille Fallay was a shot further back on five-under-par, while three professionals finished on four-under-par: Spain’s Itziar Elguezabal, Australia’s Belinda Kerr and Ann Norman Hansen from Denmark.
There were 17 amateurs in the top 28 positions following the first round (comprising the top 24 and ties). Five players were tied for 24th place on one-under-par including amateurs Melissa Reid from England, (a member of the PING Junior Solheim Cup Team in 2005), and Lydia Hall from Wales.
Afonso carded five birdies, one bogey and an eagle, while Becker had six birdies, two bogeys and an eagle. English professional Michelle Smith aced the 153-yard par-three ninth hole in her first round. However, she also carded three bogeys and a double, eventually signing for a three-over-par 75.
