ASHTON IS TOP PLAYER AGAIN FOR BELMONT
ABBEY COLLEGE TEAM IN FLORIDA
Ashton Ingram from Fort William, a second-year student at Belmont Abbey College, North Carolina, has finished her college's top player for the third tournament in a row on the American women's circuit.
In two days of awful weather - heavy rain on the first, and high winds on the second - in the DeBarry Intercollegiate at DeBarry Country Club, Florida, Ashton had rounds of 83 and 77 for a total of 160 to finish joint 17th.
Team-mate Carley Warrington had rounds of 78 and 88 for 166 to gain joint 35th position. Carley comes from Bradwell in England.
The event was won by Kimberley Wong (Bethune Cookman College) by two strokes with 75 and 71 for 146.
Another trio of BCC players squeezed into the top 10.
Becky Dowell from Thornecome had 75 and 79 for joint fifth place on 154.
Emma Taylor frtom Devon scorted 76 and 79 for 155 and a share of eighth place.
Fern Grimshaw from Dorset came joint 10th with 77 and 79 for 156.
Ireland's Ann Marie Dalton (High Point Univeresity) scored 80 and 82 for 162 and a share of 26th place.
Belmont Abbey (656) finished eighth of 14 in the team event won by 15 strokes by Bethune Cookman College (611).
