ENGLAND WIN THE SPIRIT TITLE IN TEXAS
BUT DISAPPOINTMENT FOR SCOTLAND

England triumphed while Scotland finished 22nd in a field of 24 countries at The Spirit mixed amateur international team better-ball golf tournament which ended at Whispering Pines Golf Club, Trinity in Texas today.
Scott Mann (Carnoustie) and Scottish youths champion Scott Borrowman (Dollar) finished joint 18th in the men’s better-ball standings.
Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) and Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) came 22nd in the women’s final table.
Adding the scores together gave Scotland a team total of 593, compared with England’s winning mark of 544, two ahead of joint runners-up Korea and United States.
England’s heroes were Gary Boyd, Walker Cup player and US college circuit man Daniel Willett, English women’s champion Naomi Edwards and Elizabeth Bennett.
Wales finished in 20th place with 589, four shots better than Scotland.
Ireland did not enter a team.
