JANE, NEIL WIN SCOTTISH JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS' TITLES

Jane Turner (Mortonhall), pictured right, capped an excellent golf season by winning the Scottish Junior Champion of Champions' girls title at Kingsbarns Links.

Winner of the East of Scotland Ladies and Midlothian girls championships, Jane beat Ladybank's Susan Jackson on a better inward half after they had tied at the head of the field on 81.

Considering it was the first time she had ever played the impressive Fife links, which looks as though it has been there for years but hasn't, Jane's performance was all the more praiseworthy.

Jane, now coached by SLGA national coach Kevin Craggs, was introduced to golf by her dad eight years ago. She has been East of Scotland girls champion for the past three years and was a member of the Scotland team who retained the Under-18 girls home internationals title.

The boys' champion of champions' honour was claimed by Scottish schoolboys title-holder Neil Henderson (The Glen, Berwick), also on a card play-off, from David Parlane (Helensburgh).

Both teenagers played exceptionally well to tie on two-under-par 70, great scoring over a championship links, used in the Alfred Dunhill Links championship.

Henderson, coached by twice former Northern Open champion Colin Brooks, won the countback with the better last six holes. It was that close.

The scoring was exceptionally good in the boys' section with five players in all getting under the par of 72.
