KRYSTLE MATCHES PAR OF 72 IN
FIRST ROUND OF TAR
HEEL INVITATIONAL
Judging by her first-round score of a par-matching 72 in the Tar Heel Invitational today at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, it looks as though Krystle Caithness has now settled in at Georgia University.
The Cellardyke teenager deviated from par only four times over the UNC Finley course which measures 6,285yd. She bogeyed the sixth but birdied the ninth to be out in level par 36. Then she birdied the long 13th but bogeyed the short 14th in coming home in par 36.
That put her in joint seventh place in a classy field.
Michael Cavener (Tulsa) leads the field with a four-under-par 68 in the three-round event which will finish on Sunday.
American Curtis Cup ace and top-ranked college player Amanda Blumenherst (Duke) is only one shot ahead of Krystle with a 71.
Former Irish girl champion Danielle McVeigh (Texas A&M) finished with a 75 after birdieing the fourth and fifth. She had bogeys at the eighth, 122th, 14th, 16th and 18th after that great start. She is sharing 21st place in the field of 93.
