Australia’s Dana Lacey added a five-under-par 67 to her opening 69 to lead on eight-under-par 136 following the second round of the Ladies European Tour’s Final Qualifying School in Italy.
The 25-year-old from Perth, Western Australia was a stroke clear of France’s Melodie Bourdy, with Sweden’s Anna Knutsson, English amateur Emma Lyons and Welsh amateur Lydia Hall a stroke further back on six-under-par 138.
Swiss player Nora Angehrn, who set a course record 65 in the first round, had a 74 and tied with four players on five-under-par 139.
Lacey carded six birdies and one bogey on the Le Fonti course in Castel San Pietro near Bologna. The United States Duramed Futures Tour player, who held limited playing privileges on the Ladies European Tour throughout 2007, finished tied for 29th in September’s De Vere Ladies Scottish Open, which allowed her to skip last week’s Pre-Qualifying in Italy.
“At La Cala (where Final Q School was played in 2006), I missed out on the last round and I went back and played a year on the Futures Tour,” explained Lacey.“I actually came out and played in the Scottish Open and made the cut, so I could come straight to Final Qualifying School. I really want to play in Europe so I’m going for it. As long as I get my card I’ll be happy.” Bourdy, who turns 21 on Friday, has the luxury of four-time Ladies European Tour winner Stephanie Arricau on caddie duties this week.
Bourdy, a first year Tour player, whose brother Gregory is a European Tour professional, recorded a second round of 69 to place herself in a strong position ahead of the cut to 50 players and ties after Thursday's third round.
“It’s very nice having Stephanie to caddie for me because she is a very good player and she helps me a lot,” said Bourdy, adding: “My objective is to win here because last year I missed out by one shot. This year I am trying to be the best. I know that I can do it.”
Bourdy played in 10 events on a conditional card in 2007 and made six cuts, with her best finish joint tenth at the Ladies Open of Portugal.
This week's 72-hole Stage 2, Final Qualifying ends on Friday. The leading 30 players will receive Category 8 membership of the Ladies European Tour, which will give starts in most full field tournaments.
Those players who finish in positions 31-50 and ties will receive membership in Category 10b, with some playing restrictions.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR JENNA ON THURSDAY

Scottish amateur champion Jenna Wilson needs to hold her nerve on "moving day" - the third round - in the Ladies' European Tour Final Qualifying School in Italy tomorrow.
She slipped back a bit from the high of a three-under-par 69 on Tuesday to a three-over 75 today but on level par 144 and joint 29th place she is solidly placed to achieve her first target this week, namely to be among the leading 50 players and ties after Thursday's third round.
Get through to the fourth round by hook or by crook and then worry about finishing as high as possible in the final round to gain one of the top 30 cards for the LET of 2009.
