Clare Queen, Liz McKinnon
share 44th place in Ladies'
Spanish Open Day 1

Long-hitting Spaniard Carmen Alonso took and early lead - and stayed at the top of the scoreboard right through the opening day of the Open de Espana Femenico (Ladies' Spanish Open) at the Panoramica Golf & Country Club, Castellon.
Alonso, the longest hitter on Ladies European Tour in 2007 with an average drive of 284.60 yards, fired a five-under-par 67 to lead by one over three players, Rebecca Hudson from Doncaster, Denmark’s Iben Tinning and French rookie Caroline Afonso, making her LET debut.
Alonso played the back nine first, with two birdies and one bogey, before scoring four-under-par on the front nine with four further birdies.
Clare Queen (The Carrick at Cameron House) and Inverness-based New Zealand Liz McKinnon (Cal Carson Golf Agency image above, all rights reserved) start Friday's second round in joint 44th place on two-over-par 74.
Clare birdied two long holes, the second and the 11th, but she shed shots at the first, fourth, eighth and 10th.
Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links) and rookie Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) will be disappointed with their rounds of 76 and 77 respectively.
Lynn is in joint 83rd position after picking up a couple of birdies, at the 14th and long 18th, but she dropped too many shots - at the third, fifth, seventh, 12th, 15th and 16th.
Jenna is tied for 100th place after a round that included a double-bogey 7 at the long 11th. Jenna did birdie the long second and the short 12th but she scattered shots at the fourth, seventh, ninth, 14th and 17th.
