PAMELA FEGGANS BEATS THE
BUTTERFLIES TO SHARE
US FUTURES TOUR LEAD
Ayrshire exile Pamela Feggans, 25, shared the lead on five-under-par 67 at the end of the first round of the latest event on the United States Futures' Tour,.the $88,000 Louisiana Pelican Classic at The Wetlands Golf Club, Lafayette in Louisiana (Friday, USA time).
Pamela, pictured left, from Patna, Ayrshire and a former competitor on the American women's college circuit as a student at Florida Southern University, was the last player to finish in a field of 143 and on a day of win and rain.
With an eagle 3 at the ninth and birdies at the 14th and 15th in halves of 33 and 34, she was able to join the long-time clubhouse leader M J Hur from South Korea on the 67 mark.
"Bad weather? That was just like a summer's day back home in Scotland," said Pamela in her post-round interview. "My putting was really good today. I was trying not to think about getting a low score but I have to admit the butterflies were flapping around in my stomach over the last few holes."
Fellow-Scot Vikki Laing from Musselburgh - a winner on the US No 2 women's pro tour last year, did not fare so well at Miss Feggans. She starts the second round of this 54-hole event in joint 68th place after a 75 with halves of 40 and 35.
Londoner Polly Willett and Brenda McLarnon from Belfast are bracketed on the 109th mark after both scored a 78. Polly took 41 shots for the second nine and Brenda 40.
Weather forecast for the second round is for the temperature to touch 80 degrees with the wind gusting from 15 to 20 mph.
