County championship at Deeside Golf Club
SHEENA WOOD HEADS SHIRE QUALIFIERS WITH A 74
Aberdeen Ladies’ stalwart Sheena Wood led the 16 qualifiers for this weekend’s match-play stages with a competent round of two-over-par 74 in the Aberdeenshire women’s county golf championship at Deeside Golf Club this evening (Friday).
Sheena, picture right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, all rights reserved, four times champion and eight times finalist in all, birdied the fourth and sixth but three-putted both the third and eighth to be out in level par 37.
The only shots she dropped after the turn were at the 11th and 12th where she missed the green and failed to get up and down.
Donna Pocock (Murcar Links) claimed the No 2 seed berth with a 77, coming home in level par 35 after taking 42 to reach the turn.
Title-holder Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) is absent from the field because of a clash of dates with a Curtis Cup team practice session at St Andrews.
Laura Murray (Alford), last year’s beaten finalist, is playing in the Welsh women’s open stroke-play championship this weekend.
