CURTIS CUP CAPTAIN QUOTES

CURTIS CUP QUOTES

MARY McKENNA (GB&I)

The standard of golf has been absolutely wonderful. I would have loved
to have got that extra match in the bag so that we could have gone into
the second day on level terms at 3-3. That would have given us a great
boost but 4-2 in arrears is not the end of the world by any means.
There are still 14 points to be played for and we are still very much
in the hunt with two days' play to go.
We were up in two morning matches for a while and then it turned in the
United States' favour.
Again in the afternoon we were leading in two ties ... so the golf is
there in the GB&I team. It's just a matter of them producing it.
It would be nice for us to do what the Americans have done and take
both the Saturday sessions at least by 2-1 in each.
I think my team will come flying out of the traps on Saturday. They
will be geared up and ready to go.

CAROL SEMPLE THOMPSON (USA)

The lead of 4-2 is not a huge lead but it's a solid one and I am very
happy with our team's performance. I think we've acquitted ourselves
well and I'm looking forward to the second day of the same foursomes
and four-ball format.
I'm not all surprised by the very high standard of player from both
teams. They're not afraid to go under par as I would have been myself
as a player 30 years ago. They are not afraid any more. A par only gets
you a half at a hole these days.
I thought the four-ball format (played for the first time in a Curtis
Cup match) went very well. I thought it might be slow but it wasn't. My
players are more comfortable with four-ball matches than they are with
foursomes.
I think it bodes well for the future of the event.
