MAKE PROGRESS INTO SEMI-FINALS

AT DEESIDE TOMORROW MORNING

Leading qualifier Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies), the most successful player in the Aberdeenshire women's county golf championship over the past two decades, is through to the semi-finals once again in this year's tournament at Deeside Golf Club,
Four times champion and eight times a finalist in all, Sheena won her first tie today by beating the county secretary, Karen Stalker (Fraserburgh), by 5 and 3.

Then she beat up and coming Westhill teenager Samantha Leslie by 3 and 2 to reach the last four.

In Sunday morning's first semi-final, Miss Wood will play Edinburgh University student Sara Thomson (Murcar Links) who was the No 2 seed 12 months ago when she reached the semi-final before losing to the eventual champion, new Curtis Cup selection Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon).
The No 2 seed, Donna Pocock (Murcar Links), pictured above, courtesy of Cal Carson Golf Agency, all rights reserved, reached the last eight with a 5 and 4 win over Banchory youngster Louise McGillivray and then the last four with a 6 and 5 win over former county champion Jill Harrison (Cruden Bay).

In the semi-finals, Donna will play Deeside member Mareeva Millership whose local knowledge of the Bieldside course must have been a big help to her in reaching the last four. In the first round, Mareeva, the 14th of the 16 match-play qualifiers, beat the No 3 seed, Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay).
