Late entry Eve Muirhead breaks record in
Highland Open

Scotland curling international Eve Muirhead (Pitlochry) shaved one stroke off the women's record at her home course today in the qualifying round of the Highland Women's Open.
Eve, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency (all rights reserved), failed by two shots to qualify for the match-play stages of the North of Scotland women's amateur championship at Strathmore Golf Centre on Monday and was lucky to get a late entry to the Pitlochry event.
She made the most of it was a great round of 69, three under par and one shot inside the old record by Sonia Grant (Tillicoultry) as long ago as 1989.
Eve had birdies at the seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th and 13th as well as bogeys at the fifth and ninth in halves of 36 (level par) and 33 (three under).
Eighteen-year-old Eve, who won the Women's Highland Open title last year, ended the day as the leading quaifier for the match-play stages by five shots from Hannah Harvey (St Rule).
The field of 123 included nine players from Sweden.
