Helen Alfredsson edges ahead
in LPGA's Safeway Classic

FROM THE AOL GOLF NEWS SERVICE
Helen Alfredsson grabbed a one-shot lead at the LPGA Tour's Safeway Classic on Saturday after shooting a second-round 67 at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
The Swede carded a second consecutive five-under-par effort to move to 10-under, one stroke ahead of countrywoman Sophie Gustafson.
"I think I've been striking it much, much better and I think a little bit more with confidence," Alfredsson said. "Before, I felt like the ball really could go anywhere and it was a struggle all the time."
Gustafson, who stood at 11-under after 15 holes, was pleased with her day`s work despite consecutive bogeys on the 16th and 17th that saw her finish with a 68.
Kelli Kuehne is tied for third place with Paula Creamer after posting a two-under round of 70.
Cristie Kerr, who fired a 67, leads a group of seven players on six-under. She birdied four consecutive holes on her way to a 33 on the front nine.
Katherine Hull, who captured the Canadian Women's Open last week, sank five birdies in a flawless 67 to also finish six-under.
First-round leader Angela Park struggled, however, recording four birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey en route to a one-over 73, leaving her five shots behind Alfredsson.
Karrie Webb and Lorena Ochoa also sit at five-under for the tournament.
