PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Ulster secured their third consecutive Under-15 girls' inter-provincial title on countback following a 3-3 tie with Munster in the final at Athy Golf Club today.
The top match went in favour of Munster, courtesy of Eadaoin Cronin, but Ulster’s Jessica Carty levelled the match with a comprehensive win over Sinead Sexton.
Although Ulster’s Paula Grant lost the first hole and remained one down through nine, steady par golf on the inward nine saw her edge past Munster’s Jenny Hennessy.
Jean O’Driscoll and big-hitter Aoife Barry, representing Munster, both won by 3 and 2 margins over Jessica Boal and Amy Chambers to give Munster a 3-2 lead with one match still on the course.
Colette McNicholl registered a decisive win over Gemma McCarthy which increased Ulster’s tally of holes up, earning them overall victory.
The tussle for third place culminated in an exciting encounter between Chloe Fitzpatrick and Holly Robinson. Holly turned three up but Chloe won the next five holes to stand two up on the 15th tee.
Holly levelled the tie on the 16th but Chloe went on to win on the home green.
Megan O’Hara, Aisling Hill and Shauna Brady secured third place for Connacht by recording wins while Leinster’s Laura Doherty had a good win against Sarah Prendergast.
The final match, between Leinster’s Rebecca O’Regan and Connacht’s Amber Gleeson, was halved due to the Connacht player’s late illness.
