PARTING SHOTS

No Wie word from Michelle ...

Michelle Wie declined to talk to reporters about the round of 70 that put her in solid position in the 164-player field at Rancho Mirage, California.
The 18-year-old Wie made her debut in the qualifying process with five birdies and three bogeys on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club, where she has finished in the top 10 in three of her four starts in the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Despite the strong start in the 72-hole qualifying event, Wie emerged from the scoring room and informed her agent that she wouldn't do any interviews until Friday's final round. She later refused to talk to reporters as she went to the putting green for practice.

Solid start by Vikki Laing

Musselburgh exile Vikki Laing, setting out on yet another big to regain playing rights on the LPGA Tour, made a satisfactory start.
Vikki, one of a field of 130 chasing approximately 30 places (and ties) in the Final Q School at Dayton Beach, Florida from December 3 to 7, matched the par of 72 to be in joint 26th place behind leader Sun-Ju Ahn (South Korea) who shot a 66 to lead by three.
In joint eighth place on 70, alongside Michelle Wie, are US Curtis Cup team player Stacy Lewis, now a professional, and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist, winner of the British women's open amateur championship at North Berwick in June.
Becky Brewerton from Wales is sharing 35th place with a 73.
Other Ladies European Tour players, England's Melissa Reid and Kira Matharu, scored 74 and 77 respectively.
