TEAM TITLE CONSOLATION FOR
KRYSTLE CAITHNESS
Curtis Cup Scot Krystle Caithness finished 21st equal in quality field for the Cougar Classic women's college golf tournament which ended today at Yeamans Hall Club, Charleston, South Carolina.
The 19-year-old Fifer, a student at Georgia University, had raised hopes of achieving a top-10 finish when she had a five-under-par 67, the best score of the second round. But a third round of 75, in which she dropped four shots to par over the last 10 holes after birdies at the third and seventh had cancelled out a bogey at the first, pushed her down to just outside the top 20.
Caithness, who had begun with a 77, finished on three-over-par 219 - 13 shots behind the Swedish winner, Caroline Westrup (Florida) State who scored 69, 71 and 66 for 10-under 206.
Channel Islander Olivia Jordan-Higgins (Charleston Southern) finished in joint 12th place on level par 216 with scores of 74, 70 and 72.
Rebecca Watson (Tennessee) from South Queensferry finished in joint 104th position with a total of 246, made up of rounds of 82, 79 and 85.
Big consolation for Krystle Caithness was the fact that Georgia University won the team event which is prized more highly by university coaches than individual performances.
Georgia (858) won the team title from Alabama (863) and North Caroline (872).
