Krystle Caithness placed joint 6th in individual standings
Espirito Santo Trophy
Scotland just failed to make their target of a top-10 finish in the women's world amateur team championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy at Grange Golf Club, Adelaide in Australia.
They had their best team effort on the fourth and final day - a 72 from Roseanne Niven, a 73 from Kylie Walker and a 75 from Krystle Caithness - but came joint 11th in the final standings, which is not a bad effort in a field of 48 teams.
Sweden, represented by Caroline Hedwall, Anna Nordqvist and Pernilla Lindberg - all students at American colleges, outclassed the field with a 19-under-par total of 561. Hedwall and Nordqvist finished first and second in the individual standings. Lindberg's scores did not count in any of the four rounds, yet she came 18th in the final placings.
The Swedish trio won the championship by 12 strokes from Spain with the United States, who started slowly but finished like a train, coming through to take third place on 575.
Canada, whose national coach is a Scot, Dean Spriddle from Fife, finished a creditable fourth on 583.
England came seventh on 586.
Wales were 23rd on 605 and Ireland 24th on 606.
Scotland can hold their heads up high on the world stage. Several bigger countries with much greater resources under-achieved, such as host nation Australia who finished a shot behind Scotland in 13th place.
France, joint 15th on 595, too must have been disappointed with their team effort.
Krystle Caithness was the star of the show for Scotland and one of the leading players in the star-studded field.
High-level competition on the American college circuit has raised the bar for her - and she is clearing it. Krystle came joint sixth with a level par aggregate of 290 in the overall standings.
