MEGAN PIPS LESLEY FOR
WEST OF SCOTLAND TITLE ON BETTER INWARD HALF
Scotland international Megan Briggs (Kimacolm) pipped Lesley Hendry (Routenburn) for the West of Scotland women's amateur golf championship at Old Ranfurly today (Sunday).
Both finished on 76 and 19-year-old Megan, pictured right with the trophy (courtesy of Carol Fell) won the card countback with an inward half of 36 to Lesley's 37.
It was close too for third place with three players finishing on 77 - Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), Anne Laing (Vale of Leven) and Clare-Marie Carlton (Fereneze). Former Scottish champion Anne Laing won the third scratch prize on a countback.
Gillian Arnott (Kilbirnie Place) had the best net score of 70 off a handicap of eight, a shot ahead of Alyson McKechin (6) with Alyson McGinnigle (Cochrane Castle) third with a net 72 off six.
Renfrewshire - Megan Briggs, Clare-Marie Carlton and Alyson McKechin - won the team event.
A field of 43 played in the West championship which was reschuled after being washed out Haggs Castle in May.
