LPGA Tour lose three tournaments worth
$5million from 2009 schedule
The LPGA Tour - the most lucrative women's professional golf circuit in the world - has announced that it will be offering three fewer tournaments in 2009, compared with this year, and that total prize money will go down by about $5 million.
SemGroup, which sponsored one tournament this year, entered bankruptcy this summer and some other sponsors just do not have enough money in the bank to continue.
"It's no secret that the road ahead, particularly 2009, is going to test our mettle," LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens said.
