We'll be tracking Andrew Cooley at San
Diego State University in 2009
Chobham, Surrey teenager Andrew Cooley was this past week named by the English Golf Union in their squad for 2009.
It was only then that we realised he is a freshman (first year) student at San Diego State University - and that we've been missing him out on our regular updates from the United States college circuits!
Andrew, who is 6ft and 19 years old, won the Italian amateur match-play championship last year when he was a creditable runner-up behind Stiggy Hodgson in the Daily Telegraph boys' championship final at Dubai.
This year Cooley claimed the West of England stroke-play title and finished third in the Tillman Trophy.
He has had a good first half of the 2008-2009 college season for San Diego State. He gained a top-15 finish three times and played particularly well in the college team's last event of 2008, which entailed a trip across the Pacific to Kahuku, Hawaii for the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate. in mid-November.
Cooley led the field of 98 players at the end of the first round after a superb score of 66. He followed that up with scores of 74 and 72 for four-under-par 212, which earned him joint 14th place.
San Diego State finished runners-up in the team event.
Now that we know Andrew Cooley is at San Diego State, look out for updates on his performances on this website in the second half of the 2008-2009 US college golf season.
