Cathy Panton-Lewis's World Team

trail by 2pt in seniors' Handa Cup

The World Team, captain by Cathy Panton-Lewis (pictured right) were trailing 13-11 at the end of the first day of the Handa Cup match-play tournament for senior women's professionals at World Golf Hall of Fame course, Florida.

The ties were played over nine holes with 2pt awarded for a win and 1pt for a halved match.

The United States took a 7-5 lead at the end of the "modified" foursomes session but Cathy's team fought back to lead 11-7 in the afternoon nine-hole better-ball ties before the Americans finished strongly to win the alst three ties for a 13-11 lead at the end of the day.

The only British player in the World team was Alison Nicholas, the 1997 US Women's Open champion. She is playing in the match for the first time.
