Vikki Laing's bid to get back on LPGA
Tour tees off on Wednesday

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Final Qualifying Tournament is set to tee off on Wednesday (December 3-7) at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A field of 143 players havew their sights set on either earning membership or improving their current membership status for the 2009 LPGA Tour.
Among the hopefuls are Sun-Ju Ahn of South Korea, medalist at the first sectional qualifier in September at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, and Chella Choi, a native of South Korea and winner of the second sectional qualifier in October at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla.
Choi is one of 74 Duramed Futures Tour members attempting to earn 2009 LPGA Tour membership.
Joining the medalists from the two sectionals will be Michelle Wie of Hawaii and Texan Stacy Lewis who advanced from the first 2008 sectional qualifier to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament on their first career attempts.
They will be joined by 69 international players - including LPGA of Japan (JLPGA) star Shiho Oyama who is currently 40th in the Rolex Rankings - and 74 players from the United States. Consistent with the LPGA's history of being a true global tour, the 143-player field features players from 20 countries. In addition to the 74 players from the United States, South Korea is represented by 23 players, followed by Canada (6) and Thailand (5). Australia, Mexico and Sweden each have four representatives, while France, Japan and Spain each have three. Brazil, Colombia, Germany and South Africa each have two players in the field, and the countries of England, India, Indonesia, Netherlands, Scotland (Vikki Laing) and Venezuela each have a single representative.
Within the United States, 32 states are represented in the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, with California leading the way with 16 athletes. Florida and Texas are next in line with eight and six players, respectively.
Additionally, there are five amateurs in the field, looking for a breakthrough performance to warrant the start of their professional golf careers.
The five-day final qualifier, which will be played on both the Legends and Champions courses at LPGA International, will have a 72-hole cut to the low-70 players and ties. Those players will then compete on Sunday on the Champions course for the final 18 holes of play.
The top 20 players at the conclusion of the event will earn Priority in Category 11. In the event of a tie, a play-off will decide the 20th position. Players finishing in the 21st-30th spots will earn Priority in Category 16, followed by 31st-40th, who will receive Priority in Category 20.
