Great Scot! Sally Watson leads
field in Annika Invitational

(with additional words by Colin Farquharson)
Most players will tell you that they are playing against the course - not their fellow players. That being the case, the score following Saturday's first round is: Sally Watson 1, Tom Watson Course 0 - after Sally was the only player to beat par in the first round of play, shooting a two-under-par 70 at the Ginn Reunion Resort, Florida.
After parring her way through the front nine, she found her groove on the back, making four birdies to get to rour-under-par. The course, designed by multi-major tournament winner Tom Watson, connected on a couple of late punches, however, as Sally bogeyed holes 16 and 17, before closing out with a par.
From South Queensferry, Edinburgh but now a David Leadbetter Golf Academy student bound for Stanford Univesity, California in the autumn, 17-year-old Sally Watson compiled a 3-2 record as a member of the GB&I team at last year's Curtis Cup match over the Old Course, St Andrews. Among her career highlights is making the cut at the 2007 Women's British Open, reaching the final of the British girls' championship in 2006 and winning the Scottish girls' match-play championship 2005.
