Jodi Ewart joint sixth in Arizona

Wildcat Invitational tournament

Curtis Cup player Jodi Ewart, a student at New Mexico University, was lying joint sixth at the end of the first round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational women's college tournament at Peninsula Golf Club, Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
Jodi, from Catterick, had halves of 36 in matching the par of 72 for the 6,146yd course. She was five shots behind the two-stroke leader, Juliana Murcia (Arizona State), who had halves of 33 and 34.
Former English girls champion Ellie Givens from Darlington, a student at Denver University, was in joint ninth place on 73, one shot ahead of team-mate Sarah Faller from Galway.
The two surprises of the opening day were the performances of American Amanda Blumenherst (Duke), a US Curtis Cup team player and the top-ranked player in female college golf, and British women's amateur stroke-play champion Roseanne Niven (California-Berkeley) from Crieff.
Amana was in joint 28th place on 76 (38-38) while Roseanne had a day to forget - an 87 (41-46) which left her languishing in 87th position in a field of 89.
