Disqualification blow for Katy
but Lynn Univ win team title
Despite the most unfortunate disqualification of Katy McNicoll's first-round score of 74, Lynn University’s women’s golf team earned its first victory of the season after claiming first place at the NIU Springlake Invitational at Sebring, Florida.
Despite the most unfortunate disqualification of Katy McNicoll's first-round score of 74, Lynn University’s women’s golf team earned its first victory of the season after claiming first place at the NIU Springlake Invitational at Sebring, Florida.
Katy's team-mate Megan Mangone earned medalist honours for the second time in her career while Maha Maddioui finished second.
Katy, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, from Carnoustie, had a 74 in the first round but her marker failed to put a score opposite one hole, although it would seem that she had put 74 in for a total.
Katy signed her card and handed it in to the Recorder without noticing the slip.
She had a 73 in the second round and her total of 147 would have been good enough to finish joint second - a reminder to Katy (and all players) that she should check EVERY scorecard carefully before signing it and handing it in.
Four of the Fighting Knights finished in the top-10 led by Mangone. The senior from Windham, N.H. is enjoying a career year in her final season with the Blue & White. Mangone has notched six consecutive top-10 finishes, including two tournament wins. She fired a second round 75 to pull out the one-stroke victory over Haddioui.
Lynn University (599) recorded its lowest 36-hole score of the season in recording a 297 team score. The Blue & White finished 18-strokes ahead of Florida Gulf Coast (617) while Methodist (641) took third.
The Knights return to action on Monday, March 9, at the Peggy Kirk Bell in Winter Park, Florida.
