Lorrin Golf to sponsor English

amateur women's order of merit

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The English Women’s Golf Association is pleased to announce that the golf holiday company, Lorrin Golf, will sponsor its order of merit for 2009 and 2010.
The order of merit provides a league table for over 400 English women and girl amateur golfers who compete in international, national and county events. The two most recent overall winners were Hampshire’s Liz Bennett, who has now joined the Ladies European Tour, and Derbyshire’s Melissa Reid, who was the LET rookie of the year last season.
Lorrin Golf is a golf tour operator arranging golf holidays to premier resorts throughout Europe, USA, Caribbean, Dubai and Thailand.
Lorrin Golf also runs a leading golf academy in St Andrews. Its director, David Kelly, a former British university golf champion, commented:
“At Lorrin Golf we are committed to performance and to presenting the very best that the game of golf has to offer. So, sponsoring the EWGA order of merit and helping to raise the profile of the country’s best women golfers, is perfect for us.”
EWGA chief executive Jim Robinson said: “England’s finest women and girl golfers are superb players and we are delighted that Lorrin Golf is helping us to showcase their talents. These players draw attention to golf and this encourages more people to take up the sport and enjoy the pleasures of the game.”
Meanwhile, the early-season race to the 2009 title is currently led by Hertfordshire’s Charlie Douglass, who reached the quarter-finals of the Spanish championship. Charlie, 20, plays at Brocket Hall and has been a member of EWGA’s Performance Squad.
The Lorrin Golf-sponsored table can be viewed on the EWGA website, www.englishwomensgolf.org, and will be updated weekly once the full season is underway in April.
