Paul Ferrier fades in final round
at Southern Highlands, Nevada
Former Scottish boys' match-play champion Paul Ferrier, a first-year student at the University of Charlotte, North Carolina, slumped with a seven-over-par 79 in the final round to finish joint 48th in a field of 80 for the Southern Highlands Collegiate tournament at Southern Highlands Golf Club, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ferrier, pictured on right, had earlier had a pair of 74s over one of the longest courses he has ever played - 7510yd, par 72 - to be in 31st place with one round to go.
Starting at the 10th on the last day, Ferrier birdied three long holes, the 13th, the 18th and third but he had a triple bogey 8 at his last hole, the long ninth, a double bogey 6 at the first and also dropped shots at the 14th, 16th, second, sixth and seventh in halves of 36 and 43 as he played them.
The 2007 Scottish boys title-winner had a double bogey 5 at the short 17th in the second round.
Scotland international James Byrne (Arizona State) from Banchory finished in 70th place with scores of 83, 73 and 80. In his final round Byrne had birdies at the third, fourth and seventh but ran up double bogeys at the short 12th and long 18th.
Gavin Reid (Southern California) from Northern Ireland finished 77th with scores of 78, 85 and 76.
Cameron Tringale (Georgia Tech) won the individual title by five strokes with scores of 67, 70 and 68 for 11-under-par 205.
UNLV (855) won the team title ahead of Oklahoma State (856) with Charlotte in joint 11th position of 15 teams.
