Ailsa Summers wins Angus girls'

championship for first time

Ailsa Summers, whose mother is a multi-winner of the Angus women's county golf championship, looks like being a chip off the old block. Ailsa today won the Angus junior ladies' championship at Ballumbie Castle golf course for the first time.
Ailsa, a five-handicap junior member of Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club, beat Ashley Alston (Royal Montrose) by 3 and 2 in the final. Ashley also lost in the final last year.
In the semi-finals Ailsa Summers beat Louise Smith 5 and 4 and Ashley Alston beat Monifieth clubmate Jemma Chalmers 2 and 1.
Later this week Ailsa Summers is a member of the Scotland 2 team in the SLGA Under-16 girls' open championship at Craigielaw.
Ailsa's mother, as Mary Mackie, also reached the final of the British girls' open championship at Edzell Golf Club in 1982.
