Briggs sisters meet in Renfrewshire

semi-finals as four seeds prevail

The Briggs sisters from Kilmacolm, 19-year-old Megan and 15-year-old Eilidh, will meet in tomorrow morning's first semi-final of the Renfrewshire women's county golf championship at Whitecraigs Golf Club.
Last year they met in the final with Megan winning 4 and 3 to become champion for the third year in a row. This week Megan is top seed and Eilidh fourth best qualifier for the match-play stages.
The top four seeds all made it through to the last four.Megan Briggs did not have to play the last three holes either in the first round of the afternoon quarter-finals. She Eva Thomson (East Renfrewshire) 5 and 3 followed by a 4 and 3 win over Carol Whyte (Windyhill).
Eilidh Briggs, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, won by 4 and 2 against Linda McDougall (Greenock) and then by
5 and 3 over Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire).
Clare-Marie Carlton displayed powerful golf to beat young Natasha Qayum (Ranfurly Castle) 6 and 5 in the quarter-finals. She now plays 10 times past champion Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle) for a place in the final.Donna was one down with four holes to play against another up and coming youngster, Alyson McKechin (Elderslie). Donna then won the short 16th to square the match and won by onehole with a great up and down from a bunker at the 18th.

A McKechin (Elderslie) bt B Paterson (Eastwood) 6 and 4.
N Qayum (Ranfurly Castle) bt Linda Stevenson (Whitecraigs) 2 and 1.
C-M Carlton (Fereneze) beat L Stewart (Greenburn) 5 and 3.
