Roehampton Gold Cup,

Heather top Scot

Professional Sophie Walker (Forest Pines), pictured right with the trophy by courtesy of the organisers, won the Roehampton Gold Cup and the £1,000 first cash prize at the London venue on Saturday. She had a super first round of four-under-par 68 - four birdies and 14 pars - and then a par 72 in the afternoon for a total of four-under 140 was good enough to head the final totals by three and four shots respectively from two amateurs, Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton) who had a second-round 69 for 143 and West Lancs' Corisande Lee who had a first-round 69 on her way to a level par total of 144.
Only two Scots in the field. Gullane assistant Heather MacRae, the former British women's open amateur stroke-play champion at Nairn, finished a creditable joint fourth on 147 with scores of 72 and 75.
Another lady pro, Cathy Panton-Lewis (The Berkshire) did not do so well as she had been playing of late - a winner in France of a seniors' title. Cathy had scores of 78 and 82 for 160.
