St Andrews trail in California

in US Intercollegiate

St Andrews University's team of five are trailing the field by a long way in the United States Intercollegiate tournament at Stanford University golf course - Tiger Woods' (and Mhairi McKay) old stamping ground - in California.
Tze Huang Choo (Washington University) leads the individual standings with Sunday's final round to go after two brilliant Saturday scores of five-under-par 65 for 10-under-par 130 over the 6742yd course.
He leads only by one shot from Matthew Giles (Southern California University) who had a brilliant second round of 63 for 131.
The best-placed St Andrews team player is Cameron Gray with scores of 75 and 74 for 149 and a share of 74th place in the field of 92.
Washington (537) lead the team event by eight shots from Southern California with St Andrews 25 shots adrift of the field of 17 teams on the 611 mark.
In fairness to St Andrews, it should be pointed out that they are competing among the very best players on the US college circuit after making the long trip to the West Coast of America from the cool spring temperatures of Scotland.
