Stacy Bregman leads with a

flawless 65 in Swiss Open

South Africa’s Stacy Lee Bregman enjoyed the perfect start to the Ladies European Tour campaign in Switzerland today.
The 22-year-old from Johannesburg, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, fired eight birdies for a flawless 65 and grabbed the outright lead in the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open at Golf Gerre Losone in Ticino.
Bregman, joint runner-up at last year’s Turkish Open, is chasing a maiden victory on the Ladies European Tour.
Her eight-under-par score, which included four birdies on each of the front and back nine, was a personal low round and comes at the beginning of her third season as a pro.
“It’s fantastic. I’ll take it any day. To keep bogeys off your score card means you haven’t really made any mistakes so yeah, it’s fantastic,” she said. “I’ve had a bit of a break through our summer back in South Africa and I’ve been working really hard. I’m focused. I wasn’t expecting as good as that but I’m happy with it. I was expecting a good round.”
Sweden’s Emma Zackrisson, last year’s Spanish Open winner, shot a six-under 67 to share second with Finland’s Jenni Kuosa and India’s Smriti Mehra.
Zackrisson said: “I hit the ball very well. I nailed it to the pin on, like, the last 15 holes.” England’s Lisa Hall, a four-time tournament winner, shares fifth with compatriot Holly Aitchison and Denmark’s Lisa Holm Sorensen on five-under-par.
Hall said: “It’s a special tournament for me because I had a break from the game and this was the first tournament back on a sponsor’s invite three years ago now, in 2006. I finished third that week but it set me up for playing so it has a special place in my heart.”
Aitchison, 22, from Bedford, had a sensational start to life on tour, playing in her first competitive round as a professional. She attended LET Qualifying School at La Manga in Spain in January, after undergoing keyhole surgery to her right knee in November.
She said: “I would have been happy with level par at the start of the week. It was a pleasant surprise. “My putting was quite good today. I hit a lot of greens and holed a lot of putts. I never really hit it too far away, so it was good. I gave myself a lot of birdie chances and took most of them.”
Spain’s Paula Marti, whose brother-in-law Alex Corretja has just started developing British tennis star Andy Murray’s clay court game, shot 69 to tie for eighth place with seven other players. They were Norwegians Marianne Skarpnord and Lill Kristin Saether, Denmark’s Malene Jorgensen, Tara Delaney of Ireland, Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom and the English duo Georgina Simpson and Samantha Head.
