QUARTER-FINAL RESULTS
Murrayfield beat The Merchants 6/3.
Caroline Johnstone and Marjorie Townsend (Murrayfield) were ahead for most of their match against Linda Caine and Julie Douglas. Having been 3 down at the 11th, Merchants fought back to be 1 down by 16 but then lost on 17 so finished the game 2 down.
Shona Simpson and Sarah Ledingham (M/F) were having a close game with Rachel Archibold and Isobel Halliday (Merchants) and were still all square at 6. Murrayfield won the next 4 holes and played well to hold that lead until 16 finishing 4 up.
Lothianburn Beat Craigmillar Park 1 hole.
Lothianburn avenged last year's semi-final defeat with a win over the holders, Craigmillar Park. In a tense finish, Lothianburn's second pairing of Anne Brownie & Catherine Stewart secured the half required to win the match with a solid par on the 18th.
In the first match, between Ruth Brown and Viv Curran (Lothianburn), and Karen Ballantyne and Kirsten Blackwood (Craigmillar Park), some excellent putting from both sides kept the scoring close.
Karen and Kirsten won the 18th to finish two up on Ruth and Viv.
Highlights from the second pairing included a pitch in by Catherine Stewart for an eagle 3 at the 11th for Catherine and Anne to go five up on Frances McFadzean and Sal Shepherd, followed by a raking putt from 30 feet by Anne at the 14th.
Sal and Francis staged a fightback at 16 and 17 but that was not enough as it still gave Lothianburn a one-hole win over the two matches.
Baberton beat Musselburgh 1 hole.
Baberton's first couple, Karen Marshall and Fiona de Vries, quickly took charge against Jane Herd and Fiona Gilfinnan. Being six up going down 18, Karen played a magnificent three-iron shot on to the 18th green. This birdie proved decisive as they finishrd seven up.
The second couple were up against a strong Musselburgh pairing of Linda Grieve and Ruth Carroll. Six down going down the 18th, Fiona Hunter and Katherine Logan hung on for a half in par.
Kingsknowe beat Turnhouse 7/6.
Kate Rorke and Gill Petrie of Kingsknowe were evenly matched until the turn with Linda Bain and Helen Ross, but then lifted their game in the second half to be three up after 15 holes.
In the second match, Louise Fraser and Shiela Lyon were ahead from the third hole.
At the turn they were two up against Sydena Cullen and Margaret Thompson of Turnhouse and on the 15th hole Sheila holed a 15 foot putt to win the match with a par, taking them to four up.
