ABERDEENSHIRE CHAMPIONSHIP SURPRISES
Leslie v Wilson, Dunsmuir v
Thomson in semi-finals
Sunday morning's semi-finals of the Aberdeenshire women's county championship at Peterhead will feature four players who have never won the title.
No 8 seed Samantha Leslie (Westhill), pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, will play No 5 qualifier Carol Wilson (Murcar Links) in the first semi-final at 10am while former Shire county captain Ros Dunsmuir (Cruden Bay) will play Edinburgh-based Sara Thomson (Royal Musselburgh) in a battle between the 14th and 15th qualifiers for the match-play stages.
In this afternoon's (Sat) semi-finals, 17-year-old Leslie
toppled the No 1 seed Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay) by 4 and 3 while Wilson beat youngster Lauren Duncan (Aboyne), the No 13 qualifier who had beaten the defending champion Donna Pocock (Murcar Links) in the morning first round.
Dunsmuir followed up her morning one-hole win over Scotland senior international Jill Harrison (Cruden Bay) by beating another Aberdeenshire team member Laura McLardy (Murcar Links) by 3 and 2.
Thomson, 19th hole conqueror of four times county champion Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) in the first round, reached the last four with a 5 and 3 win over Gill Murray (Cruden Bay).
It had been a morning of shocks on another windy day for the start over the exposed Craigewan Links.
