MIDLOTHIAN BREAK FIFE GRIP

ON EAST DIVISION TITLE

Midlothian beat title-holders Fife in what should be the decisive match of the East Division women's inter-county team golf championship at Falkirk Golf Club today.

Midlothian took a 2-1 edge over the Scottish champions in the morning foursomes and also claimed the singles by a single point, 3 ½-2 ½ for a 5 ½-3 ½ overall scoreline.

Having beaten East Lothian 7-2 on the opening day, Midlothian are the only team in the four-cornered contest with a 100 per cent two wins out of two record going into the final day action.

Midlothian should clinch a place in the Scottish county finals at Baberton Golf Club in September with a last-day victory over pointless Stirling & Clackmannan who took the singles 3 ½-2 ½ from East Lothian today but lost the match 5-4.

Fife finish off by playing East Lothian but they would need underdogs Stirling & Clackmannan to beat Midlothian while they themselves scored a big margin win over East Lothian.
