Lorna gets top 10 Senior British

finish for second year in a row

Ladybank’s Lorna Bennett achieved a top-10 finish in the Senior Women’s British Open golf championship for the second year in a row at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, South Wales today.
The Fifer, joint third last year, was only one of five players to break 80 on a windy final day over the par-74 South Wales links which are testing enough for the over-55s in the calmest of conditions.
Lorna’s rounds were 83, 82 and 77 for a total of 20-over-par 242 which gained her a share of eighth place behind the winner, Vicki Thomas, a former Curtis Cup player and many times Welsh women’s amateur champion.
Vicki, playing out of Carmarthen, scored 76, 74 and 82 for 232 to win the British seniors title for the first time by three shots from Rozalyn Adams (Addington Court).
Bennett, pictured above, had halves of 38 and 39 with a couple of birdies at the eighth and 17th.
Fiona de Vries (St Rule) finished joint 15th with 83, 83 and 81 for 245. Her final halves were 42 and 39 with a solitary birdie at the 13th.
Dunbar’s Noreen Fenton, who had been the top Scot overnight, sank to a share of 23rd place with a final round of 86 (42-44) after earlier efforts of 82 and 80. Noreen had a curious round in that she had an eagle 3 at the 17th after a total of five double bogeys between the seventh and the 14th.
Pamela Williamson (Baberton) had rounds of 89, 81 and 85 (38-47) for joint 30th position on 255. Pamela had one triple bogey and two double bogeys between the 12th and the 16th.
Cruden Bay’s Lynne Terry scored 87, 85 and 90 (46-44) for 262 and 38th place. Her scorecard included two triple bogeys and three doubles.
