Carol Semple Thompson loses in first round

of US women's mid-am championship

Virginia Derby Grimes defeated Carol Semple Thompson, 4 and 3, in Monday's opening round of match play in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur championship at Golden Hills Golf & Turf Club, Ocala Florida.
Grimes and Thompson, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, are two of the most well-known names in women's amateur golf.
The last time the pair faced off was in at the 1993 Women’s Mid-Am, with Thompson winning by one hole.
