LOUISE WON'T LET APPENDIX OP KO HER FROM SCOTS TEAM FOR TEXAS By COLIN FARQUHARSON SLGA Order of Merit winner Louise Kenney is not going to let a recent operation for the removal of her appendix prevent her achieving another highlight in her best season since she was Scottish girls match-play champion in 2000 and beaten finalist the following year. Pitreavie member Louise, Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), Paul Shields (Kirkhill) and Mark Bookless (Sandyhills) make up the combined Scotland team who fly out this weekend to Texas for the biennial The Spirit tournament at Whispering Pines Golf Club, Houston, from November 4 to 7. "I am still going to The Spirit tournament in America," said Louise, a supply schoolteacher. "I got the go-ahead from the doctor at the Scottish Institute of Sport last week. Obviously I'm not allowed to be hitting hundreds of balls but I'm recovering well and very much looking forward to the trip." Louise, 26, was beaten finalist in the Scottish women's amateur championship at Southerness in May and won the Angela Uzielli Trophy for finishing fourth in the British women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Balgownie in August. She is coached by Spencer Henderson, the Scottish Golf Union's national junior coach. Final top 10 placings in the 2009 Scottish Ladies Golfing Association Order of Merit are: 1 Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) 3090pt 2 Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) 2740. 3 Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) 2455. 4 Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) 2375. 5 Laura Murray (Alford) 2120. 6 Carly Booth (Comrie) 1788. 7 Jane Turner (Craigielaw) 1613. 8 Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) 1398. 9 Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) 1255. 10 Katy McNicoll (Carnoustie) 1140. |
