Scottish Universities' Ladies Golf League
gets going at Scotscraig, Dundonald next
By SUZIE McINALLY
The Scottish Universities Ladies Golf League played its first competition of the year at Scotscraig Golf Club, Tayport in Fife on Sunday.
It was a great test of golf for all abilities and fortunately we had a much better day than we had expected weather wise. We were lucky after torrential downpour and 75 mph winds on Saturday night to have no rain at Scotscraig and only a moderate breeze.
The field consisted of 33 players from eight universities with a healthy mix of low, middle and high handicaps, and the results were as mixed as the field!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Scotscraig Golf Club for their assistance, both on Sunday and in the lead-up to the competition. They were fantastic and could not have been more help.
The course was in awesome condition and, quite honestly, a joy to play. The food was great and the bar staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Extra credit should go to Barrie Liddle, the managing secretary, and Alison Harvey, Barrie's assistant, without whom we would not have been able to play the competition.
I would especially like to thank Susan Jackson from Edinburgh and Eleanor Pike from St Andrews who did a bit of running around for me last week and Katie Marshall from Glasgow who consented to going out last to get the girls started so that I could go first and collate the cards when the rest of the field returned. It's all about teamwork!
I hope that this is the start of a great year for Scottish Universities Ladies Golf, and with our new found alliance with the SLGA, I hope that we can go from strength to strength.
The next Stableford will be held at Dundonald Links on Sunday, November 8 and I require the final entries in by Friday, October 30, so if you have any additional ladies to add please do so as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to contact me either through E-mail, or on my mobile (07917 584063).
