Charlie Douglass wins English
women's Order of Merit
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Charlie Douglass has won the English Women’s Golf Association order of merit, sponsored by the golf holiday company Lorrin Golf, and is England’s number one golfer.
The 20-year-old English champion, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency at this year's women's home internationals at Irvine GC, from Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, has been at the head of the table almost all season. Over the later stages she was briefly overtaken by fellow international Rachel Jennings, but Charlie went back to the top and took the title by the narrow margin of five points.
“Winning the order of merit is massively important to me because it shows I’ve been consistent over the whole season. I am really, really happy,” she said.
Charlie’s successful season started in May when she won the English championship at Lindrick. She went on to help England win the silver medal at the European team championship and was the country’s top scorer at the Home Internationals. She’s been picked for the GB&I Curtis Cup squad and has decided to stay amateur for at least another year and try to win her place in the 2010 team.
“I have loved it all – but I have absolutely loved the team side of it. I don’t think I have ever had so much fun in my life, it’s just been fantastic,” said Charlie. 2009 Ladies’ order of merit – final leading placings
