Holly Clyburn runaway winner of

EWGA girls' Order of Merit

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Lincolnshire’s Holly Clyburn is signing off from junior golf in spectacular style as England’s top girl golfer.
Holly, 18, is the runaway winner of the English Women’s Golf Association girls’ order of merit, which is sponsored by the golf holiday company, Lorrin Golf.
The runner-up was Wiltshire’s Hannah Turland, ahead of Lancashire’s Kelly Tidy.
Altogether 198 girls figured in this year’s table, that’s up from 175 in 2008.
The result reflects Holly’s superb season in which she won the English girls’ championship, the French Under-18 open championship and the Faldo Series girls’ title in Brazil.
She completed her career as a girl international on a high when she was part of the winning England team at the girls’ Home Internationals.
Holly, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, has also made an impressive impact in women’s golf. She made her debut as a full international, helping England win the silver medal at the European ladies’ team championship before also playing in the Home Internationals. She has been selected for GB&I’s 2010 Curtis Cup squad.
“I’ve surprised myself by what I’ve achieved and I’m very happy,” said Holly, who is a member at Woodhall Spa.
Winning the girls’ order of merit was one of Holly’s goals for the season. “This is my last year in girls’ golf and it means a lot to me. It shows how consistent I have been – and it’s a great sign off from girls’ golf,” she said.
She also paid tribute to the support of the English Women’s Golf Association. “I’ve been wearing a pink England jumper since I was 11 and the support I have had from EWGA has been great. All this is down to them as much as to me.”
Holly will complete her season next week when she plays in the finals of the Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship, presented by the Daily Telegraph, from November 27-29.
She’s planning an early start to 2010 with New Year tournaments in the USA. Her Faldo win will also take her to China in March for the Faldo series Asia Grand Final and it will give her a start alongside the professionals in a Ladies European Tour event.
